I had the pleasure of visiting a stunning new venue a couple of weeks ago. Healey Barn is a stunning new addition to the North East wedding scene. It opened in June 2015 and is run by the Cripps Barn Group team who have over 20 years’ experience in running weddings and events. They already have three beautiful barn wedding venues in the southern counties and chose the quaint hamlet of Healey in Northumberland to house their fourth.
Healey Barn is made up of a handsome set of stone barns which offers something quite different to the traditional country house or hotel wedding venue. As much of the original farm buildings were kept during renovations as could be, and the owners sourced local materials to complete the reconstruction. When you walk into the barns there is such a lovely spacious feel due to the high ceilings made of exposed wooden beams, it is certainly what I expected of a barn and more.
The Long Barn, which is used for civil ceremonies and dancing in the evening, has spectacular oak beams, candelabras, fairy lights and a stone fireplace which creates an enchanting and romantic atmosphere whatever season you choose to get married. The Long Barn is licensed for civil ceremonies and can seat up to 140 people. If you have always dreamed of getting married outside, the courtyard at Healey Barn is also licensed but is weather dependent – this is the UK!
The Courtyard is sheltered by high walls on all sides and is perfect for post-ceremony drinks with it’s planters and seating. The Courtyard looks magical at night with fairy-lit trees, lanterns and fire pits – perfect for toasting marshmallows and lighting sparklers. If you are a fan of the outdoors you are going to love this aspect of Healy Barn.
The Dining Room leads off the Long Barn and has some stunning southerly views of the countryside (which happened to be a little bit obscured by the fog the day I visited) , and a glass wall which looks into the Courtyard. There is a beautiful copper-clad bar in the Dining Room which has a licence until 1am.
Letty and the team at Healey barn try to make each event as personal and unique as possible. They allow you to pick and choose from a selection of decorations, menu choices and they have a wide selection of recommended, local suppliers should you need their help finding those too! No fireworks are permitted at the barn but other than that about anything goes. Letty said “We let people decorate the barn as much, or little, as they would like. Its a blank canvas!!”
Completing the package is Healey Barn’s inimitable menus. Healey’s formula is “Buy the best, cook it simply, serve it generously”. They aim to make their food dramatic as well as delicious, which I think matches the character of the venue, so there’s an 8-spit rotisserie visible through a glass screen from the Dining Room, and a large mobile BBQ which can be moved in and out of sight as appropriate.
Cripps Barn Group understand that budgeting for a wedding can be painful and unrealistic so they have built an online price calculator to help give couples a really good idea of how much their wedding or event would be at Healey Barn. All you need to do is simply click on a suitable date on the online availability calendar to start an online quote.
There is no accommodation on site at the barn but there are lots of B&B’s and hotels locally.
