Alex & Sarah’s Elegant South Causey Inn Wedding

Alex and Sarah were married in a Civil Ceremony at the South Causey Inn, Stanley on Saturday 23rd May 2015. Sarah was walked down the aisle by her dad “I am such a daddy’s girl and it was brilliant to see how proud he was.”

Sarah and Alex have known each other since school, but it wasn’t until Sarah’s 22nd Birthday when they exchanged numbers while in The Empress Bar in Newcastle. They had their first date in The Black Bull in Blaydon shortly after.

Alex proposed at Slaley Hall near Hexham, where he had arranged a spa break weekend. Sarah said ” I knew that Alex was acting strange – we had a lovely day in the spa then Alex got down on one knee in our room. I was shocked and we both cried then spent the afternoon outside in the sun drinking champagne.”

The couple chose the South Causey Inn for their wedding as it is a place they have often visited together and their Sunday lunch is amazing. They looked at some other venues, but the South Causey Inn was perfect for the day they wanted. Sarah said “It sounds corny but when you have found the right place you just know it is right.  We were literally sat outside one sunny afternoon and I looked around at everyone so relaxed and enjoying themselves and I thought this is how I want my day to be.” They chose to hold the wedding on the Saturday of the bank holiday weekend so that people wouldn’t have to take time off work and they would have a couple of days off afterwards too.

Sarah said that she didn’t really set out with a theme in mind. The first thing she bought for the wedding was the bridesmaid dresses which were an aqua/teal colour. The next things she bought was her dress and then said that everything else seemed to just fall in to place from then. “I kept stressing out that I didn’t have a theme as such and we just kept choosing the things we liked but it all came together on the day and I couldn’t be happier with how it looked.  If I had to describe the theme it would probably be classic and elegant.”

Sarah started to look for her wedding dress straight away. She looked through 100’s of bridal magazines and had an idea of what she wanted and thought would suit her. But that wasn’t the case; as soon as she started to try on dresses she chose something completely different from what she had in mind. Sarah chose Mori Lee’s 2607 which is a classic ball gown with a Chantilly lace bodice and a tulle skirt. It has a sweetheart neckline with a scalloped lace edge and a satin waistband with a beautiful embellishment to the right hand side. “As soon as I looked in the mirror I was overwhelmed and began to cry.”

One of the only jobs Alex had to do was buy the suits. He went shopping one night and came back with 6 modern, navy, slim fit suits with nice crisp white shirts for him and the bridal party . Alex bought them from Debenhams and they only cost £130 each.  “I was over the moon with them and they were exactly what I would have chosen myself.”

Sarah had her sister as maid of honour, 3 bridesmaids and a flower girl.  She said “it was an easy decision to pick the ladies I did because they are my best friends; I’ve known them most of my life and are always there when I need them.” Sarah found the bridesmaid dresses when looking on Marks & Spencer’s website for something else.  She said “It was the colour that caught my eye.  I didn’t have to worry too much about the style as all four of my bridesmaids would look good in anything.  I ordered them and they were even better in real life – beautiful material, finish, and style and the girls looked amazing in them.”

Sarah is very picky about having someone else do her makeup for her ” I think I do an OK job on my own.” She’d had her makeup done by professionals in the past and hated it! She was really stressed out about it and spent hours trawling the internet for ideas. She booked Katie Robson to come to her house and do a trial and because she knew exactly what she wanted she was really pleased with how the trial looked. “On the day Katie asked is there anything you want to change? and I completely put my trust in her and said do whatever you think.  I am so glad I did this because Katie created a different look and did an amazing job. I was so happy with the way I looked on the photographs and felt amazing all day.  I cannot recommend her enough because she is so talented at what she does.”

Sarah asked her hairdresser and friend Emma Appleby from Attitude Hair and Beauty to do her wedding hair.  “I have been going there for 10 years and knew I could rely on Emma to create something beautiful.”

The boys had an Audi A8 to get to the venue and Sarah hired two beautiful cars from Chapel Wedding Cars. “I absolutely loved them they were one of my favourite things from the day.” “The ride up to the venue was lovely with my dad it was a gorgeous sunny day and we were able to have the roof down on the car.  I felt like a celebrity because loads of people stood and waved.”

The reception and ceremony were both held at the South Causey Inn. The decorations were part of the package the couple chose; Sarah said this took away a lot of stress, they just had to choose the sash colours and centre pieces. “We loved the way it looked.” Helen at The Little Love Card Company designed the couples invites.  “They were really special! With ribbon, lace and cute diamantes.” She also did their table plan, table numbers, place cards and a post box.  “They looked great in the room on the day and really brought everything together from a decor point of view.  The ribbon matched our bridesmaids dress colour, with lace to match my dress and diamantes to add a touch of glamour.”

“The speeches were really great, some hilarious moments that everybody enjoyed! My dad really surprised me because his speech was amazing!”

The cake was by Cakes by Becky. The top-tier was coconut and lime, the middle tier was white chocolate and raspberry and the bottom layer was a traditional fruit cake.

“We had music playing from a playlist we made with favourite songs throughout the day as backing music. We hired a magician for the guests which was great fun! On the evening we had a roulette table, and a dj. Our first dance was to Lady in Red, a song that means so much to us and it was a perfect choice.”

Sarah’s advice is “Brides definitely plan early! Visit as many wedding fairs and get as many ideas you can. Does not stress out about a ‘theme’ just choose the things you like.” “For the grooms make sure your happy with the suit choices. And advice on a budget is to expect to go over it!” Advice for the actual day “try to relax, take every moment in, do not spend time thinking about the guests and making sure they are OK – it’s your day and it really does fly over so spend your time wisely.”

The couples honeymoon was in Mexico for 2 weeks a week after the wedding. “It was the best holiday ever! Perfect balance of chill out and partying. This was really needed.  It was pure paradise and I’d definitely go back.  AND!!! I got to finally swim with Dolphins.”
